What's In Your Bible?
…for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name. – Psalms 138:2
Rods or Hands?
The Poster states that the Geneva is the original translation. The Geneva is neither the “original translation” nor the first Bible translated into English. It is, however, the first Bible with chapter and verse markings.
It was translated mainly by William Whittingham and Myles Coverdale with John Calvin giving council. John Calvin is the founder of Calvinism. The Geneva Bible is full of Calvinistic notes.
People were paying attention more to the notes than the text.
THAT’s the main reason it’s an inferior translation and why King James wanted a new translation made.
But this incorrect translation of John 19:3 also proves it.
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15

And said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they smote him with their hands.
Geneva Bible: “they smote him with their roddes.”
What do the new versions say?
NIV And they slapped him in the face.
ESV and struck him with their hands.

Before the Geneva is the Great Bible: It says They smote Him on the face – no rods
Before the Great is the Matthews Bible. It says and they smote him on the face.
Before the Matthews was the Coverdale Bible, it says And they smote him on the face.
Before the Coverdale is the Tyndale Bible, it says They smote Him on the face, – no rods.
Before the Tyndale Bible is the Wycliffe Bible, and it says “and they gaven to him buffattis.”
In other words, they buffeted him with fists.
AFTER the Geneva is the Bishop’s Bible. It says and struck him with rods which matches the Geneva.
After the Bishops is the King James and yes, it was changed back to hands.
Even the Roman Catholic Douay Rheims and they gave him blows
Not only that, Not one new translation I could find has rods except for the Bishop’s.
Bibles before and after the Geneva say that in some form or another that Jesus was smote with hands or fists and not rods.
Why did the Geneva change it to rods instead of hands when no Bible had it that way before?
King James is not a control freak. Although I could see it in Biblical times.
And like the last post, it is bearing false witness.
Virtually all but two Bibles prove it.
This is why we Study to shew thyself approved unto God.
