NIV Where’d it go?

ESV: Nope

NASV: Brackets  (At least it’s in there.)

New World Translation: missing like as the others.

While Luke 17:36 is omitted in the English NIV, it is in the Portuguese NIV.  Those Sneaky Portuguese.

It’s omitted from the Vaticanus, Sinaiticus, and A. But it’s weird in that Sinaiticus also omits verse 35, but Vaticanus has it. And yet it’s included in the new translations. Go figure.

While it isn’t in all of the Reformation Bibles it is in the Wycliffe Geneva Bishops Luther’s Bible Douay Rhiems

And while the Roman Catholic Douay Rheims includes it, it’s weird that they have Vaticanus right there in the Vatican Library which has it missing. So what’s their authority?

The more recent Catholic versions like the New American Bible, the Jerusalem, and New Jerusalem of 1985 omit it.

BUT the latest Catholic version the New Catholic Bible of 2019 includes the verse.  Go figure.

It wasn’t in any of Erasmus’s or Stephanus first 3 editions, but it was in Stephanus 4th edition as well as  Beza’s and the Elzievir brothers Greek texts.

Church fathers quote it who predate the Egyptian manuscripts. Taitian Eusebius Ambrose Augustine and others.

It’s in the Old Latin which is 200 years before Sinaiticus and Vaticanus.

It’s also in Greek Miniscules a, aur, b, c, d, e, f, ffr, f13, q, and r.

It’s found in ancient Greek lectionaries 68, 76, 673, 813 and 1223.

It’s found in: Syriac Peshitta Curetonian Harclean Armenian Ethiopian and Slavonic

It’s in the oldest Arabic, Persian, and Complutensian Bibles.
