What’s In Your Bible: 1 John 2:16 The foundation of Sin

“For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”

All sin is based on at least one, sometimes two, or all three of these principles.

Lust of the flesh

Lust of the eyes

The Pride of Life

If you can abstain from all three of these temptations, you will be doing that of the Father and abstaining from the world.

But boy how difficult that is!

When Lucifer tempted Eve in the garden

He started with causing doubt as to what God said.

Genesis 3:1 “Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

Satan was able to distract Eve to take her eyes off of the LORD and what the LORD said, and put them on something else.

Verse 6 “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, (Lust of the flesh) and that it was pleasant to the eyes, (Lust of the Eyes) and a tree to be desired to make one wise, (Pride of Life) she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.”

Not only does should you apply this to your life to abstain from all appearance of evil,

But you should keep yourself from causing others to lust in their flesh

Lust in their eyes

Or cause others to be prideful or arrogant.
