What's In Your Bible: Acts 19:16-17

Matthew 19:17 KJB - “And he said unto him, WHY CALLEST THOU ME GOOD? THERE IS NONE GOOD BUT ONE, THAT IS, GOD: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.”

Jesus was called "Good Master" Jesus answered, "Why callest thou me good?" Jesus was testing the rich young ruler as to what his intention was in calling Jesus Good. Was it because he recognized Jesus as God, or just as a teacher whereas the young ruler was testing Jesus.

In the Majority of all Greek manuscripts as well as C, K, Delta, the Syriac Peshitta (Lamsa, Etheridge and Murdock’s translations), Coptic Sahidic, Ethiopian, several Old Latin versions, as well as the ancient Diatessaron.

“Good” is not in Sinaiticus, Vaticanus, D, L, Theta, some Old Latin copies as well as the Latin Vulgate.

Dean Burgon makes several comments about the Sinaiticus/Vaticanus reading in Matthew 19:17 calling it “the mere fabrication” (p. 316), “an absurd saying which He certainly never uttered” (p. 217) and “a corrupt Text” (p.139).

The event is also recorded in the gospels of both Mark and Luke.
