John 8:3 Pericope de Adulterae
What’s In Your Bible John 8:3-11 Pericope de Adulterae
This is one of the most misquoted and misapplied verses in the Bible.
This verse isn’t proclaiming judge not lest ye be judged as so many proclaim.
This isn’t talking about casting the beam out of your own eye before trying to take the mote out of someone else’s.
In order to understand this verse, you have to understand the law.
The law states that both the woman and the man are to be put to death in cases of adultery.
The Pharisees were trying to trick Jesus into condemning just the woman.
The other missing piece was that the innocent spouses were to cast the first stone after they were found guilty.
After the innocent spouses cast the first stones, then the rest of the community could cast their stones.
Jesus wasn’t dismissing her sin,
He was judging by the rules He established.
Had Jesus unrighteously condemned her,
He would have been guilty of misapplying the law that He made.
She very well may have been guilty of adultery, but the law stated both must be tried together in order for righteous judgment to be applied.
He acknowledged all of her sins by saying, Go and sin no more.
She knew what sins she was guilty of.
She also knew Jesus judged righteous judgment.
Do you think she went and sinned no more?
What about you?
Anything you need to stop, repent, and seek the face of God?
