What’s In Your Bible Exodus 25:16 The Ark of Testimonies

And thou shalt put into the ark the testimony which I shall give thee.

The items inside the Ark of the covenant were the 10 commandments,

Aaron’s rod that budded

And the pitcher of manna.

What do the new versions say?

NIV- put in the ark the tablets of the covenant law But wait there’s more?

ESV- … put into the ark the testimony Got it right!

NASV- … put into the ark the testimony Correct again

New World Translation: place in the Ark the Testimony Even the Jehovah’s witnesses got this one correct.

All of the reformation Bibles have the testimony or witness

The NIV singles itself out in stating that the 10 commandment tablets were the only thing that had a testimony in the ark.

my older NIV’s had the verse correct.

Online editions like Bible Hub, Bible Gateway, Bible Study tools etc. use the most recent 2011 and newer editions which have the incorrect translation.

The NIV matches many of the paraphrase translations like

Good news for modern man,

The Living Bible

Holman Christian Standard Bible

Amplified

Contemporary English Bible etc.

Many people probably think it’s just the 10 commandments,

but there’s more witnessing in the ark than just the 10 commandments.

The 10 commandments (also known as the Tables of the Law) are a witness to convict the unsaved of sin.

The pot of manna was a pot that contained the manna God provided to the Israelites every day,

except on the Sabbath.

While the manna went bad and rotted each day, the manna in the pot in the ark never decayed or rotted.

This witness shows how God feeds even unsaved people and how God is our everlasting bread of life.

The third witness is Aarons Rod that budded.

For those who aren’t familiar,

Aaron had a walking stick (also known as a rod) and normally walking sticks are made from dead wood.

But this walking stick budded.

Leaves grew out from the rod.

This is a witness of revealing the risen Savior. Jesus.

Jesus rose from the dead and became alive and walked among the people.

There are at least 3 witnesses inside the Ark of the Covenant. All of which are supernatural miracles. Not just the 10 commandments.
