What’s In Your Bible: Different Fabrics

Deuteronomy 22:11 Thou shalt not wear a garment of divers sorts, as of woolen and linen together.

Once again the world exaggerates breaking any of God’s laws or statutes by claiming the death penalty.

There’s no death penalty for wearing woolen and linen together.

There isn’t any penalty at all for this statute.

What’s the penalty for the sin they’re trying to defend or justify?

Let’s say you made a sweater out of wool and linen. Then you washed it. What would happen? Wool shrinks at a different rate than linen. It would ruin the garment.

Laws are there for your benefit. Not all have a penalty.

We are so richly blessed! People back then only had one set of clothes. Even Jesus only had one robe.

Next time you have a pity party on how broke you are, consider how many sets of clothes do you have.

As per usual, there are spiritual applications to this passage, but the practical answer should suffice in this instance.

The person using this argument to defend their sin could care less about the spiritual application.

They have much bigger problems to deal with.

Besides all that, God said so.

Study to shew thyself approved unto God.

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. — 2 Timothy 2:15
