What’s In Your Bible: When did the Wise men See Jesus? Part 1

There seems to be a controversy as to when the wise men showed up to see Jesus.

The wise men came from the east when a star appeared unto them.

When they arrived in Jerusalem, the star disappeared.

They sought an audience with King Herod to inquire of where the future king was located.

Herod asked them many questions as well.

Herod was very paranoid as to protecting his spot on the throne.

So much so that he even killed his own sons to protect his kingship.

He also killed his favorite wife, his mother-in-law,

and plotted to kill all of the Jewish priests in the Hippodrome upon his death among others.

The verse in question for this part is Matthew 2:16

“Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.

People claim that since Herod killed all children 2 years old and under proves that Jesus was possibly 2 years old.

The words specifically “According to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men”

The wise men came from the east when they saw the star.

The entourage could have been travelling for 2 years as far as we know.

That’s the inference of their being 2 years.

If Herod killed his own sons to keep them from taking his throne,

he would make sure to kill anything claiming to be a king.

The assumption of Herod killing 2 year old’s and under proving that Jesus could have been 2 has no merit.

Any more than if Herod killed children 5 years old and under doesn’t prove Jesus was 5.
