Matthew 27:49
What’s In Your Bible Matthew 27:49
The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.
Now this one is different. You won’t get this one on any other channel.
First off, All Reformation Bibles have: Elias will come
What do the new versions say?
NIV Hmmm It matches the Reformation texts
ESV Same as the Majority text reading
NASV Not even brackets or an asterisk to say what the oldest and most reliable manuscripts have.
New World Translation: Matches the rest.
So, what’s the big deal?
Let’s see what the Revised Standard version or RSV says: It has an asterisk.
What does the note say in the RSV.
*Other ancient authorities insert - "And another took a spear and pierced his side and there came out water and blood."
Now that’s weird.
“Other” Ancient authorities?
Meaning the same Greek manuscripts used as the standard on all other verses except this one?
The alleged oldest and most accurate manuscripts Vaticanus and Sinaiticus have
"And another took a spear and pierced his side and there came out water and blood."
In other words, They unalive Jesus before He’s done speaking.
The very next verse has Jesus crying out and giving up the spirit.
Did they stab Jesus with a spear and that’s what made Him cry out and die?
The other two passages in John and Luke have Jesus dying on His own volition before He’s stabbed with the spear.
Was Jesus stabbed twice?
The main problem is when the spear went into Jesus, water and blood came out.
Water only appears after the body is dead.
The ‘oldest and most reliable” texts don’t fit scientifically or biologically.
It seems as though a scribe copied from Luke or John and added it in the wrong place.
If the scribes were that sloppy in this location of the alleged oldest and most accurate manuscripts,
is it impossible to believe that the same scribes were just as sloppy when they omitted the other verses we’ve posted?
It sounds pretty similar to when you’re guilty of a crime but you blame others for what you did to keep people from looking at you.
Study to shew Thyself Approved unto God.
At the Cross
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. — 2 Timothy 2:15
